Cadet Sergeant Fitzgibbon____________________ |
|
Cadet Sergeant Nico
Fitzgibbon proved himself something of a life
saver in a recent Bridgend Town Centre
incident. Whilst shopping a lady standing
alongside him collapsed to the floor and went
into a series of spasms. Cdt Sgt Fitzgibbon
went to her assistance, seeking to place her in
the recovery position and apply what first aid
he could. It was soon clear that the lady was
suffering from an epileptic fit. An ambulance
was called and he continued to care for her
until the paramedics arrived. Both the paramedic
team and a grateful lady 'patient' were generous
in their praise for him as he done exactly the
right things. |
|
Cdt Sgt Fitzgibbon has
developed his first aid skills as a member of
2117 (Kenfig Hill) Squadron Air Training Corps.
He has already qualified for St John's Ambulance
Young Lifesavers Award and at present is
undertaking training to complete the adult St
John's Award qualifying as a workplace first
aider. |
|
Cdt Sgt Fitzgibbon commented
that at first the shock of the experience
was very different to the training he had
received with the Air Cadets but that he thought
back to what he had learned and saw how it
should be applied to the situation. |

spontaneous reaction to the situation that arose
and am pleased that he carried out the correct
procedure that resulted in a positive outcome’. |
