The
Liberty Stadium Hosts No3 Welsh Wing________ |
| It was a perfect venue for a fitting send
off for our Wing Commander and Wing Warrant
Officer. In their individual fields one
could say they were each indeed Premier League. |
| High ranking officers, fellow staff members
and cadets travelled from far and wide, to pay
tribute to the service of these outstanding
servants of The RAF, Air Training Corps and
Number 3 Welsh Wing, and it made for a very
special occasion for them both. |
| In the Words of Wing Commander Wilson...
"I
wanted to say that last night at the 3 Welsh
Wing 70th Anniversary Dinner, held at the
Liberty Stadium Swansea, was the most memorable
and wonderful evening I have had in 44 years
with the Corps. I was surrounded by friends and
I could not have wished for more on my last
day." |
|
Flt Lt Andrew Maund (Ret'd) very graciously
prepared a letter of thanks to our Wing
Commander and asked for it to be published on
this site. |
|
| Dear Bob, |
|
The announcement of your retirement came as a
shock to us all but sadly as no surprise to me.
All of us in No.3 Welsh Wing and in the Wales &
West Region fully appreciate how difficult it
must have been to make this decision when you
are at the top of your game and a very recent
two year extension of your service. As your
Wing & Regional Chairman, I can honestly say
that you have been an inspirational leader of
No3 Welsh Wing’s and its most outstanding leader
and commanding officer for as far back as I can
remember (and I joined in 1968). You not only
have the genuine respect of all of us who work
with you, but also that of countless others
around the Corps. Testament to this was the
numbers of people from every wing in the region
who come to dine you out and be with you out in
the Liberty Stadium on you last day as our
commanding officer. |
|
The difference your stewardship has made in 3
Wing, not least in increased moral, attitude,
cadet and staff numbers, and the achievement of
national awards, has in my 43 years’ of service
at no time been beaten. You set high standards
in dedication, commitment and work ethic. You
have brought out the best in me as you do in
everyone who works with you and for that, you
have my grateful thanks. It is as your Wing
Chairman that I would like to thank you on
behalf of the all the cadets and volunteers,
past and present, of No3. Welsh Wing, not only
for a job exceptionally well done, but also for
the way that you did it, You may not have
realised this, but your leadership, knowledge,
personally and friendship has made both an
impact and a positive difference in the lives of
many of us over the years for which we are all
grateful. |
|
We all will miss you greatly but now that we
know how unwell you feeling at present, I for
one are pleased that you took this tough
decision and for one putting yourself and Jackie
first. Whilst we in 3WW are losing our Wing
Commander, your decision to retire now will
ensure that the many friendships that you have
made in the wing, region and throughout the ACO
will continue for many years to come. |
|
We all wish you the very best of health and
happiness in your retirement and thank you for a
lifetime of dedicated service |
|
|
|
Best Regards |
|
Andrew |
