Goodbye To Number 3 Welsh Wing Nijmegen Team - 10th July 2010

The 3WW NijmegenTeam 2010 (some members absent due to other commitments, including summer camp)

3 Welsh Wing Nijmegen Team __________________________________________________________________________
The 2010 Nijmegen march teams from 3 Welsh Wing assembled for a final briefing and dinner at RAF Pembrey before starting on their 15 hour journey to Holland later that week.

The 3 Welsh Wing Marching Officer, Fg Off Chris Evans, had assembled most of his marchers together and had invited OC 3WW and his wife Jackie to the farewell dinner, which was entirely cooked by CI Nathan Barker (1092 Sqn), whose expertise in the kitchen produced one of the finest three course meals Wing Commander Wilson had eaten.

3WW is sending 24 cadets and 3 staff to undertake the most arduous task any cadet could volunteer for, marching 100 miles in 4 days, often in scorching temperatures as they march across Holland. One additional member of 3WW, CI Sian Nevatte is accompanying Trent Wing, as the Wing found themselves short of a female marching assistant to accompany their team. Fg Off Amanda Evans (Deputy Marching Officer) is leading one of the 3WW teams and her husband Fg Off Chris Evans is leading the other, with 3WW one of very few Wings to field two teams in this year's event.

In his speech to the cadets at the meal, OC 3WW stated how proud he was of them all and how thankful he was that Fg Off Chris Evans had made the whole process so professional and that our teams were the envy of many others. He added that to succeed in the march, each one had to be physically fit, mentally strong, a good team member, good leadership skills, dedicated and have the ability to raise money in the support of the team, all of which highlighted the great abilities they had that made great assets for any employer.  When the team returns they will write about their exploits and how they managed to make a 100 mile march seem like a stroll in the park.

At the end of the evening, OC 3WW was presented with a Nijmegen team medal as a memento and Mrs Wilson a bouquet of flowers.
