The
Visit__________________________________________________________________________________________ |

Cadets from 2117 (Kenfig Hill) Squadron who were looking at a
possible career in engineering were given a
unique opportunity to visit GE Aircraft Engines
maintenance plant at Nantgarw. The visit was
organised by Sergeant Kevin Gould ATC. |
| |
|
The visit started with a brief on the companies’ history and cadets
were given an idea of what they would need to
attain an apprenticeship with the company. They
were then given a tour of the factory floor and
followed the process from an engine arriving at
the plant, being cleaned and overhauled through
to the final engine test before being despatched
back to the client. |
| |
|
They also had information on the latest engines being produced,
such as the GE90, one of the quietest engines;
this type is fitted to the Boeing 777. Another
is the GE90-115B, the largest most powerful
turbo fan engine and the CFM56, the world’s best
selling commercial engine. All these are
overhauled at this plant. Cadets and staff
member are pictured in front of a CFM56. |

|
Staff and cadets all had a full and beneficial visit to the plant.
